What are Mixed Reference in Excel 2007 and how do I set it up? A Mixed Reference is a cell reference containing both an absolute and relative reference i.e. so a row or column stays the same when it's part a formula is copied and pasted into another cell. Where an Absolute Reference is where a cell is static and doesn't update when copied and pasted, as part of a formula, into another cell. For example, if part of the formula includes say the cell reference B5 and you want the row to always be static, the row 5, then in that formula add the $ reference before the number 5 so it looks like this B$5. Then when you copy that formula into another cell it will always keep and stick with row 5!
