The Advanced Search options in Windows Vista will allow you to define specific criteria by: date, location, size, file name, tags and authors. In order to activate the Advanced Search you'll have to activate it through the instant search feature first. Once you performed the instant search from the Start button, and then click "Search Everywhere" and the folder opens up you'll then go to the upper-right hand corner of the screen and click on the Advanced Search arrow which will open up some fields to help modify your search results like setting a date, or on the top bar set it to show only E-mail, Document, Pictures, Music etc. as a filter too.
